Family History

Re: My Great Great Grandparent's John Quinn-Sarah Morrisroe.
John Quinn was born 1836, John’s wife Sarah Morrisroe born in 1839 married on the 27th May 1860 in St.Nathys Roman Catholic Cathedral in Ballaghaderreen ( Built between 1856 and 1890 ) the Cathedral is in the Parish of Castlemore and Kilcolman and is the Cathedral for the Diocese of Achonry Co. Roscommon Ireland . Shortly after their marriage they moved to No 4 Swan Street Hanley Stoke on Trent(why to Hanley this is not yet clear to us) a family of the same name as Sarah’s had lived in Hanley at the same time so maybe it was because Sarah had family connections in that area .
John and Sarah decided in ca1871 shortly after the birth of their son James that they would emigrate to Ohio in America the land of opportunity. John worked for the pacific railroad but sadly in 1874 John died in an accident on his way to or from the railroad this is unclear as no records can be found of the accident as yet. Sarah was pregnant with her fifth child when her husband John died, at this time in her life Sarah must have thought her world had just fallen apart so Sarah decided to bring her children home, just 6 weeks after the birth of her fifth child Eleanor, Sarah and her children ( Katherine/ Bridget / James / John jr / Eleanor ) set off from Cleveland Ohio then sailed to England from New York. Sarah and her five children docked at Liverpool then made their way to Hanley, they settled in Marsh Street Hanley. When John jr got married he and his new wife Mary Melia moved to Stockport Cheshire, work was plentiful in the area. John jr got a job working at the Bredbury pits in Stockport Cheshire and became a Union rep fighting for pit worker's right's, in 1888 John jr’s wife died giving birth to their first child, John jr’s mother Sarah moved to Stockport to look after her grandchild and lived in her son’s house at No 3 Crowther Street Hillgate Stockport until her death in 1893 aged 54.
John jr Married his second wife Mary McEvoy and had 2 children together one later became Fr John Quinn he was born John Leo Quinn on 2nd March 1901 in Stockport. Fr John studied in Freshfield Sefton and Roosendaal Holland after a short period at Mill Hill London he was ordained a Jesuit Priest in St Joseph's Mill Hill London on the 20th July 1924. After his ordination he was appointed to theApostolic Vicariate of Jesselton in British North Borneo (now Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia), where he worked until late on in 1971. Fr John retired to Herbert House, Freshfield Sefton, but he remained active in undertaking supply work. Fr John died in Freshfield Sefton on 1st September 1983.
In the book "Khabar Gembira" (1981) by John Rooney you will find references to him on pp. 169-185.In the Missionary archive's there is a file on Fr John Quinn with letters to and from him.
